The Opportunity

This role requires a strategic and commercially minded Head of Finance who can provide financial leadership, guide long-term planning, and support the senior leadership team in achieving sustainable growth.

You will take ownership of the full financial strategy and operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, strong internal controls, and robust financial management. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys leading teams, shaping processes, and embedding best practice across a finance function.

The Role

  • Developing and implementing long-term financial strategies aligned with organisational objectives
  • Leading, mentoring and developing the finance team to foster a high-performing, collaborative environment
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of financial statements, including profit and loss and balance sheets
  • Managing the production of management accounts and KPIs, providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Creating and monitoring budgets and cash flow forecasts, ensuring alignment with business plans
  • Driving effective cash management and credit control processes
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, including VAT, CIS and wider reporting requirements
  • Overseeing pension scheme compliance and associated financial responsibilities
  • Advising on funding structures, investment opportunities and future growth strategies
  • Continually improving financial systems, processes and internal controls to maximise accuracy and efficiency
  • Monitoring financial performance and providing actionable insights to support profitability and long-term stability

The Successful Applicant

  • Hold a recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Previous experience in Civil Engineering is essential
  • Demonstrate proven experience in financial leadership at a senior level
  • Have strong team leadership and development skills
  • Bring experience within a related or operationally complex environment
  • Be commercially minded, analytical, and confident partnering with senior stakeholders
