Job Title: HSE Officer / Health & Safety Officer – Manufacturing
Location: Erdington, Birmingham, Office Based
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (37.5 hours, flexible start & finish)
Salary: £41,200 per annum

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced HSE Officer / Health & Safety Officer to join a leading manufacturing organisation in Erdington. This is a permanent, full-time role offering the opportunity to drive a zero-harm safety culture, lead HSE initiatives, and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation.

You will work closely with the HSE Manager and site teams to monitor, implement, and improve Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) systems, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and COSHH compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a zero-harm safety culture across the site
  • Identify and implement safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities
  • Conduct HSEQ / SHEQ audits and track trends
  • Take responsibility for closing out safety non-conformances and performing root cause analysis
  • Conduct safety process audits (LOTO, SOPs, contractors, permits to work)
  • Complete behavioural assessments and deliver employee safety education
  • Investigate accidents and near misses, reporting and closing findings
  • Perform daily risk assessments, process, and substance reviews
  • Review and schedule occupational health screenings based on risk assessments
  • Support ISO 14001/45001 management systems
  • Provide absence cover for the HSE Manager when required
  • Ensure COSHH & legal compliance across the site
  • Support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives
  • Lead 5S workplace organisation and improvement initiatives
  • Manage HSE projects focused on risk reduction and technology implementation
  • Conduct emergency drills and participate in emergency response teams
  • Inspect machinery and equipment for PUWER compliance and safety hazards
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and local authorities

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) roles
  • NEBOSH qualification (essential)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and HSE compliance
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to adapt to change and use initiative
  • Strong accountability and responsibility
