About the Role
Tirebuck Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting for an exciting and varied Business Manager opportunity with a well-established and highly regarded organisation.
This is a broad, hands-on senior management position with responsibility for the business and operational functions of the organisation. Working closely with the Trustees, Registered Care Manager and Finance Manager, the Business Manager will play a key role in ensuring the organisation operates effectively, safely and commercially, whilst supporting its longer-term development.
This is not a role that requires a traditional care home background. Our client is particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate a breadth of operational and commercial experience, ideally gained within a regulated, charitable, not-for-profit or similarly structured environment.
The successful candidate will bring a strong facilities and operations focus, alongside the commercial awareness and initiative to take ownership of projects, contractors, compliance, governance and business development.
A particularly important element of the role will be marketing and occupancy. The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive approach to raising the organisation's profile, developing relationships with referral partners and identifying opportunities to increase enquiries and occupancy.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Strategic Management
- Work closely with Trustees and senior management to deliver strategic and operational priorities.
- Translate agreed objectives into practical business plans, actions and timescales.
- Prepare management information, reports and recommendations for Trustees.
- Take responsibility for monitoring and driving occupancy levels.
- Identify opportunities to improve the organisation's operational and commercial performance.
Marketing, Business Development & Occupancy
- Develop and implement an annual marketing and business development strategy.
- Take a proactive approach to increasing awareness, enquiries and occupancy.
- Build strong relationships with local authorities, professional networks, community organisations, referral sources and other relevant partners.
- Oversee the organisation's external profile, including website content, promotional materials, events and community engagement.
- Monitor enquiries, referral sources, conversion and occupancy, using data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Keep up to date with the local market and competitor landscape and recommend appropriate actions.
Facilities, Premises & Projects
- Take overall responsibility for the effective management of the premises, grounds and associated facilities.
- Oversee building repairs, maintenance and new projects from initial planning through to completion.
- Manage contractors and external suppliers, ensuring work is completed safely, effectively and to the required standard.
- Oversee refurbishment, decorating and improvement projects.
- Ensure appropriate health and safety arrangements are in place for building works and contractors.
- Manage and review relevant service and energy contracts.
- Ensure statutory checks, insurance, licences, risk assessments and other compliance requirements are appropriately maintained.
Governance, Compliance & Risk
- Maintain the organisation's non-clinical policy framework and ensure policies are reviewed and updated appropriately.
- Maintain and regularly review the organisational risk register.
- Support compliance across areas including health and safety, employment, data protection, insurance and business continuity.
- Prepare appropriate information and reports for Trustees and ensure agreed actions are progressed.
- Maintain effective systems and processes across the organisation.
People & Workforce
- Provide leadership and support to the non-clinical team.
- Oversee recruitment coordination, onboarding, induction, probation and absence processes.
- Support managers with employee-related matters, working alongside external specialist HR support where required.
- Promote effective communication, accountability, training and development.
- Have oversight of a broad range of support teams, including housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance and business support functions.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Work closely with the Finance & Payroll Manager on budgeting, financial planning and management reporting.
- Take overall responsibility for the organisation's financial oversight and act as the key interface with Trustees on financial matters.
- Monitor expenditure against agreed budgets.
- Oversee purchasing, supplier relationships and contracts, ensuring value for money.
- Provide Trustees with appropriate financial and commercial information to support decision-making.
